Sound Task: Mad Max: Fury Road - Bullet farmer scene

Mad Max: Fury Road - Bullet farmer scene
From an overall look at the scene it can be identified that there is background music and a variation of different sounds such as gun shots and footsteps.
To begin with, the scene starts with an intense musical composition which is non-diegetic but contrasts well from what is actually happening in the scene. The characters are struggling to move the vehicle from the sand and background music really deepens both the emotional struggle since they are trying to escape but also the physical as their vehicle is stuck and this does not help. The background music builds up in tempo 26 seconds in as the enemy vehicle is seen. We hear gun shots from the enemy which is diegetic as we see the character shoot a gun. However with the background music getting faster it is difficult to sometimes identify if the sound from the gunshots is actually diegetic. In addition to this at 1:54 we see the woman shoot a sniper rifle but seconds after we hear a static noise. This could be said to be diegetic as this is noticeable as 'the ringing' in your ears when you hear a loud sound from a close range but it is very subtle in the scene and the characters don't react to to it therefore it is non-diegetic. Also this is an example of a sound bridge where the gunshot creates a Doppler-effect and the camera focuses on the enemy vehicle.

The background music generally dominates all the diegetic sounds in the scene (even in close ups). This is an example of parallel sound as the up-beat music fits with the action.   Furthermore, the gun shot sounds are not overpowering and the footsteps are hardly heard at all in the scene. The most used diegetic sound is the movement of the vehicle as we can hear it constantly - struggling to drive out the sand and making unusual noises.

In conclusion the scene has a good mixture of diegetic and non-diegetic sounds however I believe that the film score dictates the whole story itself and the diegetic sounds are just there to make the action believable and true but the film score is what makes this scene what it is because without it would be a totally different atmosphere - the ones we see in war films where there is film score and only the use of diegetic sound which represents a whole new level of emotion.
