The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring --- 'At the Sign of The Prancing Pony' Scene.
In this image we can see the main character Frodo Baggins. His facial expression tells us that he is the middle of a bad situation. He appears scared and lost. The lighting in this scene is high key as it appears very realistic. From first glance I predict that there is a key light on the right side because of the shadow on the right of his body, a filler light on the right side because the shadow is soft and also some top lighting because his face and hand is lit well. We can see 'the one ring' sliding on to his finger which relates to his reaction.
Forest Gump - Run, Forest, Run! Scene
One of the best scenes in my opinion. The characters are presented in clothing according to their time in the story. Forest and Gump' are dressed more formally than to the hooligans which suggests that they are from the upper class. The main location for this scene is set in a large field or park and from looking it is suggested that the lighting is high key and remains natural throughout with maybe uses of reflectors but no sudden change is seen. A important part of this scene is when Gump' starts to run and his leg supports fall off which is filmed in slow motion to make us realise this important change personality and performance of the character.
The Dark Knight - Final Joker Scene
A scene which is very dark in terms of storyline and dialogue. The Joker is presented as psychopathic and puts Batman on the edge of death and then vice versa. This scene consists of nearly all one key lighted shots where the character's face is lit from one direction only so the shadow is cast on the other side of the face. This creates a spine-chilling look and makes the audience believe everything that is happening because it creates immersion with the characters. Some back-lighting may be used but its subtle. The costumes remain classic as to the books with Batman being in complete black and The Joker having vibrant colours to represent his chaotic mind. Additionally a lot of close-ups were used so that we get to see the facial expression of the characters.
Goodfellas - Steadicam Scene
A classic example from a 1990s film about gangsters. The steadicam is used to represent the perspective of the girl and what she sees. It allows us to see the upper-class life in society. The girl finds this fascinating and we first see this when she questions about the fact that the man leaves his car keys with the Bar staff and continues throughout when the couple are walking through a back entrance and skipping the line which connotes how gangsters have the ability to bypass certain things because of their position. They are greeted by people with great wealth and they are essentially walking through a secret mob operation however the girl is blind to this and the steadicam let's the audience feel this too. Additionally the lighting is high key and remains this way through the different rooms. Overall it is a great scene with the music matching the atmosphere.
